Monteverdi Tuscany
Our partner house — and the most singular of the five: the whole village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro, restored from 2005 by Michael Cioffi, where you sleep in the lanes, dine in a Foster + Partners room and hear concerts in a 14th-century church. A Noma-trained chef, a stone-carved spa, three private houses sleeping up to 12.
Why it comes first: no other Tuscan hotel gives you a village to yourself once the day-trippers leave — and the GADAIT partnership lets us lock rooms, tables and experiences in a single conversation.
Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco
Massimo Ferragamo's 5,000-acre estate near Montalcino: 42 suites, 11 villas with private pools, a Brunello di Montalcino made on site, a two-star table — and Italy's only private golf club, 18 holes by Tom Weiskopf.
Why it is here: scale made personal. For a trip built around wine and golf, nothing in Tuscany rivals it.
Borgo Santo Pietro
A 13th-century ruin found in 2001 by Jeanette and Claus Thottrup, become Italy's most horticultural great house: ~300,000 plants in the gardens, a working farm (dairy, sheep, bees, alpacas), a starred table fed by the estate, the Seed to Skin skincare laboratory — and a crewed sailing yacht, the Satori.
Why it is here: just 22 rooms on 120 hectares — the most radical exclusivity in the selection, at some of Italy's highest rates.
Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel
A castle whose story begins in 998, owned in the 20th century by the family of Luchino Visconti — who hosted his parties here — restored as a hotel in 2012 and a Belmond house since 2018. 39 suites of 37–149 m², two 250 m² villas, a spa in the old wine cellar, an infinity pool over the Elsa valley.
Why it is here: castle romance without pastiche, carried by Belmond service — and one of Italy's great wedding venues.
COMO Castello del Nero
A 12th-century castle on ~300 hectares of Chianti vines and olive groves, 30 minutes from Florence — COMO Hotels' first continental address (2019), interiors by Paola Navone, the starred La Torre and the COMO Shambhala spa with its heated 25-metre pool.

Three filters, applied without sentiment. Singularity first: each house had to be impossible to confuse with a generic five-star — a restored village, a Brunello estate with its own golf, a Belmond castle, a garden farm, a Chianti castello. Then depth of programme: a great Tuscan stay is made outside the room, so the kitchen, the spa, the estate and the experiences weighed more than the thread count. Last, evidence over marketing: Michelin Keys and stars, the major rankings, and what returning guests actually report.

No — a classic trap: Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco closes in winter (the 2025 season ran to January 7, 2026, with winter villas rentable during closure) and Castello di Casole opens mid-March to October. Monteverdi, Borgo Santo Pietro and COMO run broader seasons — exact dates are confirmed at quotation.
Two houses dominate: Monteverdi Tuscany for buying out an entire medieval village (up to 80 guests sleeping, 100 at events, vows on the piazza or in the lavender garden) and Castello di Casole for a castle wedding (venues for 20 to 150 people on a 1,300-hectare estate). GADAIT structures the file and negotiates the calendar.
Monteverdi Tuscany is the most genuinely family-minded: cribs in every category, pizza and floral workshops, a car-free village, and three private houses with kitchens — Muri Antichi sleeps twelve. Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco's villas, with private pools, are the other great family option.
Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, without hesitation: the estate is one of the historic producers of Brunello di Montalcino, with tastings and winery tours at the winemaker's own property, plus a 700-label cellar at the two-star table. From Monteverdi, the Brunello and Vino Nobile roads are private day trips.
