COMO Castello del Nero
In short

COMO Castello del Nero is a 12th-century castle — Florentine home of the Del Nero family, owned by the Torrigiani since 1825 — set on a 740-acre (~300-hectare) estate of vines and olive groves in the heart of Chianti, 30 minutes from Florence and 40 from Siena. COMO Hotels' first continental-European address (2019), interiors by Paola Navone, 50 rooms and suites, La Torre — 1 Michelin star 2026 (chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro), and the COMO Shambhala Retreat with its heated 25-metre outdoor pool. Hotel distinction: 1 Michelin Key; voted Best Hotel in Italy 2024 by Condé Nast Traveler readers.

The story

Nine Centuries, Two Families, an Exercise in Restraint

The castello belonged to Florence's Del Nero family, then to the Torrigiani since 1825 — nearly two centuries of continuity, rare in Tuscany. In 2019 it became the first continental-European house of COMO Hotels, Singapore's quiet-wellness group; Milanese designer Paola Navone shaped interiors that let the frescoes and stone breathe. The result avoids medieval pastiche: a living, contemporary castle amid ~300 hectares of vines and olives.

Wellbeing & table

Shambhala in a Castle, a Star at La Torre

The COMO Shambhala Retreat — five individual treatment suites and two couples' rooms, a thermal circuit with ice fountain, sauna, aromatic steam room and heated vitality pool — is the house's true signature, extended in summer by the heated 25-metre outdoor pool. At table, chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro's La Torre holds 1 star in the 2026 Michelin Guide Italia, fed by a chef's garden growing up to ten varieties of tomato; La Taverna and the Pavilion keep the casual registers.

The stay

The Best Gateway to Florence and the Chianti

Thirty minutes from Florence and forty from Siena, this is the ideal house for a first grand Tuscan journey: art cities by day, castle by night. Truffle hunts with lunch, hot-air ballooning over the Chianti, tastings, tennis — and for tribes, the Podere San Filippo (12 apartments) or the 5-bedroom Villa San Luigi. Directionally, the Michelin Guide's engine showed ≈ $1,750–2,100 a night for late September 2026 — the most accessible entry point in our Tuscan selection.
