The case for Paros
Paros is what most people mean by a Greek summer: Cycladic light, a real island town in Naoussa, sandy bays around Kolymbithres and Santa Maria, and enough life ashore that teenagers and groups never run out of evenings. The villa stock runs from smart two-bedroom houses to 13-bedroom estates, which means the island works at almost any budget above €600 a night. Access is by ferry from Athens or by air via the island's airport, and the distances on the island are short.
The case for Porto Heli
Porto Heli is quieter money. On the mainland's east coast, about two and a half hours' drive from Athens with no ferry required, the bay faces Spetses — a water-taxi hop away for dinner — and holds some of Greece's most private villa estates, in the orbit of the Amanzoe resort. It is the choice for multi-family summers, significant privacy, and guests who prefer a car to a crossing.

For ten-plus guests, maximum privacy, or a summer built around the villa itself rather than the island around it, take Porto Heli.
